About Me

Hi, my name is Zainab and I am addicted to shoes and baking. Unlike my passion for shoes, my baking addiction is very recent. I had never baked a cake before February 2012 when I decided to bake a cake for my then fiance on Valentine's Day. Needless to say the cake turned out 'ok' and managed to look like an organized disaster (here). Since then, baking has become my creative outlet!

I decided to start this blog so I can document and share my baking adventures as I go through cookbooks and recipes, learning new techniques and tips.  There will be failures and hopefully successes as I mangle through baking, decorating, blogging and at some point taking great photos. So I hope you bear with me during this learning process.

A little bit more about me...

I am originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone and moved to the US about 8 years ago. I live in Central NY with my lovely husband (Mr. J, recipe taster) where I am a student neuroscientist by day and a cake-obsessed shoe-a-holic girl by night and weekends! I'm in love with Manolo Blahnik heels and I was extremely lucky to wear one as I walked down the aisle recently (thus the name Blahnik Baker. See the full story here). I love to cook and entertain in our home and if I am not in the kitchen, you will usually find me at the mall window-shopping and stalking shoes I can't afford or on the couch catching up with my DVR that never seems to be empty.

If you have any questions, comments or just want to say hello (I'd love to hear from you!), please feel free to contact me at: blahnikbaker (at) gmail (dot) com

    1. I'm sorry about the inconvenience. It's the internet explorer browser you are using that's causing the trouble. Try using another browser like Chrome or Firefox or send me your email so I can send it to you. You didn't leave an email here sorry!

  11. I'm so impressed with what you've done baking-wise in such a short time. You've got the brains to go with the baking and the Blahniks! I love the story behind the name, and that's a beautiful photo of you and your husband!

  13. Hi Zainab,
I was sent to your S'mores Macarons from another blog. In your recipe you have a link to Chocolate frosting, but when I go there I cannot find a recipe.
    1. Would you please give me the recipe for the chocolate frosting you use on your S'mores macarons?
    2. Would you please give me the recipe for the Chocolate Espresso macarons?
    3. What exactly is a neuroscientist? What does one do?
    Wow, you are impressive!

    1. Thanks for visiting Brenda. The recipes are all on the pages but I think you are using a browser that is incompatible with the blog. (Maybe internet explorer?). If you still can't see the recipes after switching browsers, feel free to email me (you didn't leave an email here!).
